Stuart Mcmorris: #GR5-RMX process

Step by step printing..

I documented the printing process I went through for making my piece for the #GR5-RMX project. I generally use the same technique for every piece of artwork I create when heading in to the print studio. The only problem I had this time round was getting the right fluorescence of pink – took me a few attempts but I got there in the end.

Finished piece hanging at #GR5-RMX

Setting my colours up as layers in Adobe Illustrator.

This is what I will be printing – 60cm x 60cm.

Change all colours to black so I can get them printed out via the big 100cm wide printer at the http://www.edinburgh-printmakers.co.uk/

Acetate on the light box ready for going on to my screen.

My other screen is drying so I can get my first layer down. This is the background fill. Goes down super easy with the big bar.

Got 6 prints to do so that’s the first few on the drying rack.

First colour.

First colours down – now for a spot wash and clean of my screen.

Next colour.

Nice n sharp,

Third colour – nice and bright.Checking the screen for any random holes or leakage points.

This how it turned out. Not too bad!

Another spot clean so I can get my final colour down.

Final colour going down. Another bright aqua blue. Love those squiggles.

Screen in the dryer, time for the clean up!

Dirty work!

More pics to follow!

Great process post. I love the Print Makers, I don’t know how you managed to remember to shoot all these whilst getting the print done. What stock did you print it on?

Cheers Adam – I can’t remember the name of the paper, italian name but I know it was 280g not brilliant white just a little off. My phone was covered in ink after the session but I think it was worth capturing it all!

      Cheers
      Stuart
